PROJECT GOAL
Bell Media is home to news and entertainment streaming services such as Crave, TSN, CTV, CP24 and more.
BIPOC TV & FILM and Bell Media partnered in 2020 to create a web portal in order to generate increased employment of Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour working in the Canadian media industry. From design explorations to development, we completed this project within 3 months. Since then, more than 2,300 members have joined.
MY ROLE
Led discovery sessions to quickly understand the limitations that BIPOC creatives face and the goals they aspire. At the same time, it was important to understand the factors that hiring managers consider most important when selecting candidates to hire. Created wireframes, user interviews and continuously collaborated with BIPOC stakeholders to ensure we were meeting business guidelines. I worked with product owners, visual designers and developers to complete this project.
DISCOVERY
Our timeline for this project was quite short, giving me only 1 month to understand the goal and needs of the direct users of this project (Job seekers and Hiring managers). After initial brainstorm sessions with stakeholders, conducting some user interviews, the following data regarding tasks was gathered:
RESEARCH
I analyzed popular recruiting websites to gauge how they designed core features such as search, filters and profile creation. During the research phase, it was important to keep in mind that the business goal of the website was to help recruiters seek talent, and it was not to be confused as a portal for posting jobs (as opposed to a regular hiring website.)
USER JOURNEY AND WIREFRAMES
After the brainstorm session with stakeholders and external research, I was able to come up with 2 user journey wireframes for both user types.
‣ BIPOC talent user goals - Setup a profile to show hiring managers their work and skills. They can include reels, images, photographs and any other necessary information along with their contact info.
‣ Hiring manager user goals - Easily find users based on job category (e.g. key grip) and be able to filter users based on location, years of experience, etc.

FINAL DESIGNS
Once the wireframes were completed, I spoke to the 2 hiring managers (from the beginning of the project) to get feedback on the flow and to point out any loopholes. There were few minor usability issues but other than smaller fixes, our Visual Design teams had enough feedback to create the final UI successfully.
