MY ROLE
As the UX/Visual Designer, I used Shopify's platform to pick an appropriate theme and helped build their website. Additionally I also designed their logo and other promotional materials such as banners, Instagram posts. Since the 2020 pandemic hit, I wanted to help small businesses such as SwitchGrocery. Since March, I've been helping out by reviewing each order that goes out and adding fun samples to orders that apply!

WHERE DESIGN MEETS BUSINESS

In the early days of the business, Neha (Owner of SwitchGrocery) started sampling SwitchGrocery products at the St. Lawrence farmers market in Toronto. The goal was not just to sell a product, but to understand customers everyday problems when it came to food. I designed a banner and some brochures that explained the 3 core lifestyles: paleo, keto and diabetic diets. Below are examples of banner images for the website.

We had an initial theme on the website to get the business started. As we learned more about customer needs, the website evolved to what is it now. Features on the site were chosen based on customer problems:

‣ Customers care a lot about how food fits into their daily lifestyle. We learned early on that showcasing a bunch of products does not help. To solve this, we added filters on the product pages based on their everyday problems. We also added a 'Shop by Lifestyle' (Keto, Paleo, Vegan) in the navigation for easy of use.
‣ Customers that are new to a food lifestyle (e.g. Keto) may not know how to use the products or simply don't have the time to do research. That's when Neha created a Recipe section and we linked this page in our customer invoices. This helped retain a lot of customers because the recipes are fun, easy and require little to no research on their part. She also added a Keto Collection that showcases how to use all Keto-friendly products!

THE BACKBONE OF THE BUSINESS
Neha is the most hardworking and mission-driven entrepreneur I have met. I've learnt from her how important it is to build customer relationships. Being an e-commerce company, it can be difficult to personally meet and know your customers. Visual designs can surely send out the message, but real-life and social media conversations are the ones that are worth remembering!
